Visit to a rape seed oil press unit
and its marketing
We went to M r PIOT’s farm
in late November. This one
started farming several years
ago on 83 ha (200 acres). Mr
PIOT grows wheat, barley,
sunflowers and seed oil rape.
Since 1998 he has crushed
some seed oil rape. He has
time and likes marketting
A litter oil is got with 3 kg
of seed oil rape, then we can
expect 900-1000 liters of
rape seed oil from a hectare.
The oil cake resulting from
manufacturing is used to feed
chickens and for domestic
fuel house.
Mr PIOT is very interested with
this activity and now he is used
to this production and
marketting oil. The work in the
fields is done by the neighbour.
Rape seed storage is very
important and must be very well
done in aim having oil with a fine,
fruity taste.
This oil is exclusively sold
for table use. It is
marketed in shops locally
but also at national
gastronomy fairs. Since
2002 Mr PIOT has gained a
foothold in the British and
Dutch markets
To meet the consumer
demand some oils have been
created with garlic and
shalot flavour. Blends based
on walnut and olive oil are
also produced.
So Mr PIOT has a well oiled
buisness.
