Organic farmstead : “GAEC du Couddray”




  

They produce crops (AUA : 285 ha) and vines (5 ha).

Crops grown : winter wheat, spelt wheat, triticale, beans (30 ha for seeds), winter and spring peas (20 ha of spring peas, an agreement is concluded with a cannery), lucerne (35 ha, sold to organic breeders), maize for human food (40 ha, contract with a canning factory), lentils (20 ha, sold in organic cooperatives shops or supermarkets with 500 gr packets or 50 kg bags). These productions are organic since 1999 and certified by ECOCERT organism.

Moreover, they grow 5 ha of vines for wine (AOC Quincy, organic productions since 2006). They produce only white wine (Sauvignon vine).

They are 3 associates who work in the society and two permanent employed workers to realize fields operations (take a lot of time because it’s various and organic productions).

Concerning about the wine production, they are member of a gathering of agricultural workers (five permanent employed workers for six wine-growers) for the vines operations. On top of that, they are member of a CUMA (agricol materials cooperative) for vines operations (it concerns all machines, even windmils which brew the air,in order to avoid the freeze at Spring). Finally, 4 permanent employed workers work for 14 producers in the Quincy marketing wine cellar.

For the crops, they are well-known because they produce seeds and sell it to cooperatives, merchants, farmers… In fact, they produce winter wheat, triticale. They can do it because 75% of the fields can be irrigated. He ploughs the totality (against weeds) and sow with different distances between drills, in order to hoe (winter wheat, maize, triticale, beans). He rotates cereals and leguminous in order to keep nitrogen (and decrease inputs).
